“Eskenderella” was formed in 2005 by Hazem Shahin. The band started by singing covers of Sheikh Sayyed Darwish, Sheikh Imam and Ziad Rahbany songs. Later the band formed their own repertoire of songs composed by Hazem Shahin with lyrics by a number of poets such as Fuad Haddad, Salah Jaheen, Naguib Shehab al-Din, Amin Haddad, Tamim al-Barghouti, Ahmad Haddad and others. The name “Eskenderella” is taken from a poem by Khamees Ezz al-Arab which carries the same title. The band consists of oud players: Hazem Shahin, Ashraf Nagaty, Hassan al-Manialawy, Islam Abdel Aziz; Keyboard players Youssef al-Shere’i pianist Ahmed El-Mogy; percussionists Farid Gad and Amir Ezzat; Bassist Seka and singers: Hazem Shahin, Ashraf Nagaty, Hassan al-Manialawy, Islam Abdel Aziz, May Haddad, Salma Haddad, Alia Shaheen and Youssef al- Shera'i
