The Sednaoui Building is on the site of the Cattaui house (No. 23 Kasr al-Nil Street),  built by Julius Franz Pasha and surrounded by a large garden and a pond. It was subsequently redesigned in 1907 by the architecture firm of (Maurice) Cattaui & (Edward) Matasek to make way for a larger residence. Part of the garden, facing Midan Soliman Pasha (later, Talaat Harb), was sacrificed to commercial development. It is there where the Sednaoui building was constructed. In 1927, the Cattaui’s Kasr al-Nil property was sold and the house torn down to make way for amongst others the Shell Building, the Cairo Bourse and the Asicurazione de Trieste Building.
