Maurice Louca (Electronics) and Khyam Allami (Oud) first began working together in Cairo in May 2012 while preparing material for their principal collaboration project, the Alif Ensemble.
During this period their experiments took many roads, some of which led to Alif Ensemble songs whilst others remained to be explored further in an alternate context.
When asked by Cairo based Egyptian contemporary dancer Karima Mansour to join her and her students for a session of improvised music and dance, they jumped at the chance to explore this material further, developing a unique and articulated semi-improvised collaboration.
Almost a year later they were invited by Beirut's Irtijal '13 festival to explore some of this material live for the first time at the Beirut Art Centre, after which Lebanon's Daily Star described the duo as "a well-oiled and melodic pairing of Allami’s lyrical oud (and electronics) with Louca’s heavy electronic beats."
Hosted by 100Copies Music Space they will bring this exciting collaboration live to Cairo for the first time
